Silken Strands in North Wales has been established for over thirty years - twelve of them in North Wales under our ownership – we are a small, friendly company selling (mainly by mail order) embroidery threads for hand and machine and all the other requisites of the embroiderer.

Wash away - special effect thread
Water soluble basting thread-saves unpicking. Disappears with water or heat fron iron or damp press. Saves time in dress making, quilting and general sewing. Does not dissolve in dry cleaning solution. Store in dry place like a zip-lock bag or plastic wrap. Do not handle with wet hands.     200m / £4.40

Smocking - special effect thread
A special thread which reacts to heat. When an iron is drawn across the fabric slowly, the thread shrinks while the background fabric does not. The fabric puckers in a controlled way and the wrinkled effect is beautiful and limitless. No special needles required. Can be sewn on any type of embroidery or domestic machine. Halloween - special effect thread
Adds an element of fun and safety. Charge Halloween with either natural or artificial light for a few seconds and a new technology makes this thread glow in the dark time after time and for much longer than other similar threads.
