Silken Strands in North Wales has been established for over thirty years - twelve of them in North Wales under our ownership – we are a small, friendly company selling (mainly by mail order) embroidery threads for hand and machine and all the other requisites of the embroiderer.

As well as Madeira's retail range, we have the full range of the large reels of Madeira Classic 30s, 40s, Tanne, FS20, Burmilana and Supertwist which are now difficult to find in the UK.

DMC perle, Presencia 12's and 16's variegated perle, Natesh, Rajmahal Art Silk, SADI Metallics, Coats Alcazar and their new silk thread Seta Reale, and YLI threads figure in our vast range of threads as, of course, do Oliver Twists and Stef Francis' hand dyed threads.

FS20
Madeira has renamed and somewhat re-vamped its FS20 range and added new colours. The thread is now entitled 'Soft Comfort' but it is still as good as ever. Probably the best tempered thread in our range! According to Madeira it is an 'elegant and soft metallic thread made from velvety spun rayon wrapped by an extra fine metallic foil. It is gentle to the skin and is ideal for clothing as well as for decorative stitching in embroidery, quilting and home decoration'. It is also ideal for those wanting to use their soldering iron and for techniques like Wow etc. Formerly known by number only, the threads now have names! Mistyfuse
What is it? A paperless iron fuse (but remember to use with baking parchment to protect iron and ironing board) . Useful for all fabrics from tulle to velvet. Incredibly sheer. Hugo's Amazing tape
Is back in stock £12.80 per reel. For those who have not met it, it is a transparent tape, which when stretched sticks only to itself, without the addition of adhesive, so it leaves no messy residue. No excuse now for tangled escaped threads. 1 reel wraps 120 Madeira type cops at the full 2in width ,240 at the one inch width and can be cut down further to prevent wound bobbins tangling.
